A backpack, currently on Kickstarter, is promising to be the ultimate travel backpack for hikers and travellers across the world. Designed by brand The Pacific Northwest (PNW), the Sea to Sky pack is a pocket-sized backpack that folds out to carry everything you need for a day’s hike.
Sea to Sky pack
Held in a pocket-sized pouch, the backpack unravels to form a standard sized backpack that can hold up to 24L. Made with lightweight and durable CORDURA® material, the main 24L compartment is completely waterproof and doubles as a dry sack. The front zipper is also water resistant and reflective.
Additional features
Alongside the essentials, the pack also has some very useful additional features. Designed specifically for rugged adventures, the straps are padded and lightweight and the sternum strap is adjustable. Likewise, it comes with an integrated 95dB whistle, ideal for emergency situations, and multifunctional deep side pockets for a water bottle or other accessories.
Designers
The idea for the backpack came in 2016 when the founders of PNW set out on a four-day hike into the Garibaldi mountain range in British Columbia, Canada. With over 7,600ft of elevation, they needed their gear to be lightweight and compact. During this time they struggled to find a backpack that was light and durable enough to take on day trips out from basecamp. After returning home, they decided to design and create their own, and it was from that the Sea to Sky pack was born.
Of the design, they said:
We designed the pack to be large enough to fit everything we needed, yet small and light enough to conserve space and weight. After going through dozens of prototypes and iterations, we finally created a bag we were happy to call our own.
The team have been crowdfunding for the pack’s launch since June. It’s proved incredibly popular, raising over $226,000 (£174,155) on Kickstarter already. Backers can expect to receive their new bags throughout August and September this year.
For such a small size, this bag sure does tick a lot of boxes. It’s lightweight, durable and multifunctional, meaning you don’t have to be a hiker to enjoy its uses.
