“Everybody loves water in the desert.” It’s the source of life, and any area boasting a pool of the stuff is sure to attract some attention. That’s why one man decided to try a little experiment by putting a bucket of water in the middle of the Texan desert to see what animals he would attract. He placed a camera at the bottom of the bucket and waited. The result definitely didn’t disappoint.
The man in question, John Wells is your modern day answer to Rubinson Crusoe. In 2007, he moved from a heavily-mortgaged home in upstate New York to almost ‘the middle of nowhere’ to live an off-grid lifestyle. He bought 40 acres of land in West Texas for $8000 (£6200) and built himself a tiny home in nine days with just $1600 (£1250)— relying solely on his set-building experience.
He describes his home as ‘The Field Lab’, a “Southwest Texas alternative energy and sustainable living field laboratory”.
Nearly every day Wells blogs about his experiences in the wild, and he has thousands of readers. The bucket video alone has been watched over four million times. Take a look at his YouTube channel and find out more about his off the grid lifestyle at thefieldlab.blogspot.co.uk
