Ever wondered how the pros capture silky smooth video footage in fast-motion action sports shots. For big budget projects, a whole bunch of image stabilising tech is employed, but may no longer be needed. The MIMIC from Freefly Systems is a two handed UAV controller that remotely controls a motorised stabilisation mount (gimbal), enabling super smooth video capture, even in fast motion. Just take a look at the video below where photographer Chase Jarvis puts the MIMIC through it’s paces.
To capture and stabilise the footage the MIMIC employs Freefly’s MōVI Control method. “There are no joysticks, knobs or wheels,” say Freefly. “Just tilt, pan or roll and the MōVI will follow. Move the MIMIC and the MōVI will follow. It’s so instant and organic that operators can execute complex moving shots with precise framing after just minutes of practice.”
Availability is set for the end of this month (April 2015) and the price-point at $495 (£330). The price, due to the technology that is packed inside the MIMIC, may put off casual film-makers. But for serious hobbyists and professionals, piloting the MIMIC is a blast and the results speak for themselves!
