Music feeds the soul, right? I certainly agree. Music is integral to adventure. It provides the sound track to our trips, it’s the playlists we remember and the sounds that recall memories.
Given this, it’s frustrating how the mainstream limits the scope. We’re bombarded with the same tracks over and over again, and while some are damn catchy, there’s only so many times I’m willing to “whip my hair back and forth”.
As such, Ben and myself are launching the ADAPT playlist. Every week we’ll focus on a different letter and bring you some new, original and undiscovered artists and tracks to listen to.
Let’s kick off the first week with the letter A:
Alle Farben – Remember Yesterday
Frans Zimmer aka Alle Farben is a German DJ and producer, born in Berlin in 1985. I first came across Farben when I noticed his remix of Daughter’s Youth track—certainly worth a listen. As his stage name suggests, German for all colours, his music crosses a lot of genres. It is both very uplifting but emotive and contemplative. The below track is a live version of his latest collaboration with fellow musicians Perttu & Michael Schulte.
Atu – Lately (ft Asante)
Atu is a young Malawian music producer from Ann Arbor, Michigan. His hazy tracks blur 90’s r&b, piano, synths and unique tempos to create an original and organic sound. ‘Lately’ is one of his earlier tracks and is a great introduction into this producer. He’s recently teamed up with fellow musicians Brent Faiyaz and Dpat on their ‘Sonder’ EP.
Alex Ebert – Truth (White Arrows Remix)
Alexander Ebert is a well known American singer-songwriter and composer. In 2014, he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score for his musical score to the film All Is Lost. While the original track received millions of hits, this White Arrows remix is relatively unknown. Personally, I prefer the remix. It adds depth and variation to the track, which I think the original lacked. Have a listen.
Air Drops – Giants of Canaan
Air Drops is a electronic music producer from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 2012, he released an EP, free to download from his website. It features some of these incredibly euphoric tracks that mix some haunting synths and ricocheting beats. From what I can tell, Air Drops hasn’t produced much new music since, but this EP is a definite testament to his potential and talent.
