We’ve been sharing the best funny animal pictures from the Comedy Wildlife Awards (CWPA) since its inception in 2015.
We’re most used to seeing wildlife-themed photography exhibitions from institutions like the National Geographic and London’s Natural History Museum. But this quirky photography competition (now in its seventh year) is a welcome edition and focuses on the not-so-serious side of nature.
From a jet-propelled seagull to a gorilla picking its nose, each year has brought even more laughs. And this year Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is no exception, with a feast of funny animal pictures to enjoy.
Highlighting wildlife conservation with funny animal pictures
Although these wacky wildlife moments are sure to make you giggle, there’s a serious side to the competition.
Founded by Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-Hicks—both professional photographers and passionate conservationists—the annual contest aims to highlight the importance of wildlife conservation in an engaging and positive way, working with competition partner Save Wild Orangutans.
“None of us are perfect, all of us at some point will fly somewhere, drive somewhere, cook something, burn something and probably provide some direct input into the general warming of the globe,” say Tom and Paul. “Indirectly, we will also have some impact on the animals that share this planet with us.”
The hope is that after seeing these hilarious wildlife snaps, you’ll share them with your friends and colleagues at the office, home, pub, club or wherever. And, at the same time, you might start talking about the need for us all to be conservationists in our own little way.
CWPA book and calendar
You can support this conservation work by picking up the CWPA photo book and CWPA calendar.
Perhaps you will even get involved in organisations like Surfers Against Sewage and Trash Free Trails to help protect our oceans and wild spaces from plastic pollution and spread that word as well.
So, scroll through the gallery, have a laugh, and share these fabulously funny animal pictures with your friends. And, don’t forget to let us know your favourite photo in the comments below.
