Australia is a country dedicated to water sports and is renowned as one of the world’s premier surfing destinations. If you don’t surf in Aus, what do you do?
But recent events show some thrill seekers are willing to take their passion perhaps a little too far. The onset of Cyclone Debbie has seen the Gold Coast smashed with 900mm of rain and wind gusts of up to 100km/h. But instead of bunking down in their homes, like most residents, some have taken this as an opportunity for extreme sports.
Take a look at these kite surfers at Labrador (QLD), Gold Coast, Australia:
As the shot turns to a man pumping up his kite, you can already see at least four other kite surfers in the sea. The man says: “Tomorrow’s headlines, look at all those bloody idiots”. As the man enters the sea, you can see the full force of the gusts as the kite surfers are whipped into the air.
But these thrill seekers weren’t the only residents looking for a bit of fun. Another video posted online showed two wakesurfers being towed behind a truck through the streets of a Queensland town. While the truck can’t go that fast, it certainly didn’t seem to bother the duo:
Videos have also been posted of surfers and body boarders taking to the sea to catch the big waves. While they may consider it harmless fun, some have condemned their actions as it not only risks their lives but potentially the lives of others.
This certainly isn’t the first time thrill seekers have taken advantage of nature’s force—and it certainly won’t be the last.
