Today, 5th May 2017, marks the start of the 2017 Giro d’Italia road cycling race. This year’s event is even more special since it will be 100th edition of the Grand Tour race.
The Giro d’Italia is probably the world’s second most famous cycling race, after the Tour de France. The race starts today (5th May) in Alghero on the island of Sardinia, and ends on 28th May in Milan. Take a look at the full route in the video below:
Google have marked the 100th anniversary with an awesome Google Doodle. The doodle shows the lead cyclist, clad in the winner’s pink jersey, with the rolling Italian hills and towering Dolomite mountain range in the background.
For some reason, it appears that the doodle is only being displayed on Google’s European websites, so if you’re in the US visit the doodles archive page to take a look. I’ve also included the doodle in this article as well:
