Strapping a motor to a board is not a new concept. Electric skateboards are becoming increasingly popular for commuting and for having fun in general. One of the most recent innovations is the Movpack, which fits an electric motor inside a backpack/skateboard—making for the ultimate school/work commuting companion.
Taking things onto the water means that you can be a little bit more liberal with the power of the motor that you strap to the board. JetSurf, a company based out of land-locked Czech Republic, have been working on the concept of a motorised surfboard for some time and have now perfected their machine.
In this video, YouTube group—Team SuperTramp—along with a couple of JetSurf pro riders took their boards to Lake Powell for a spin. Check out the behind-the-scenes video to see how the team filmed the action:
It seems odd that the JetSurf headquarters are based in a land-locked country. But with great mechanical engineers and no shortage of enthusiastic riders, the small firm has enjoyed astounding success. From humble beginnings in a tiny workshop, Jetsurf is now the world leader in producing motorised surfboards.
To get started in the sport requires a significant investment. A base model JetSurf ‘Ultrasurf’ board currently costs more than $10,000! The fast growth of the sport is, therefore, even more impressive.
But then…it does look awesome!
