Newquay is known as the surf town of Cornwall and that’s usually for its waves. But now a group of experimental surfers have attempted to take the surf inland, swapping the sea for the streets of this popular town.
The pair’s antics were caught on camera and shows them riding their converted boards around the cliff tops above Little Fistral beach. One of the friends even pulls off an impressive backside revert on their surfboard while both attempt a very bumpy descent of the steps.
The pair gained quite a lot of attention while filming with their unusual take on surfing, from bemused onlookers and fellow surfers. Likewise, the video has since been watched over 130,000 times with many people commended the pair. One Facebook follower commented: “Love this! Well done guys what a fun idea”.
However, some have also commented that their actions were unsafe and put pedestrians at risk. Given its size, the surfboard is, of course, a little tricky to manoeuvre, much more so than its wheeled cousin the longboard.
As long as these guys were riding safely and considerate of those around them, surely a bit of harmless fun goes a long way? This type of experimentation led to the development of both skateboarding and surfing after all.
