Surfing captured in super slow motion crispness, 1000 fps infact, putting the iPhone 6’s 240 fps capability to shame. Take a look at the drop at the very beginning, it looks more like a snowboarding edit than a surf video (if you don’t look at the surfboard, wetsuit…o and monster wave that is, but you get the idea).
The first half features clips of big wave surfing which look so cool in slow mo. The rest of the film features clips of aerials, drops and tube rides which look equally as gorgeous. The way the water bubbles over the lens as the wave passes by the cameraman; I just can’t get ties of that – though we see this in a lot of surf films, the slow motion capture really showcases the beauty of a wave.
If there’s one thing I would change about the video though, it would be the music. The epic Inception soundtrack from Hans Zimmer blaring in the background just doesn’t mesh with the flowing ocean images on screen (though that’s just my opinion).
All the footage was captured by the Phantom Flex, Phantom Miro M-320S and the new Phantom 4K Flex with Arri Ultra prime lenses. These were encased in Chris Bryan Films custom underwater housing’s. To find out more about the kit used and the making of the video visit www.chrisbryanfilms.com.
