Strava, the social network for athletes, has launched its Android Wear 2.0 app. Athletes can now take full advantage of an enhanced, untethered experience that includes built-in GPS and wireless connectivity, as well as the performance analysis Strava athletes desire such as time, distance, pace, laps and split times, and heart rate, all from their wrist.
Strava
Designed by athletes, for athletes, Strava’s mobile apps and website connect millions of runners and cyclists every day. Strava tracks your activities which you can then share with your friends and Strava community. The app tracks everything from speed and pace to distance and personal bests.
The desktop experience also allows users to create training plans, plan routes and analyse your performance in more detail. Within the community you can discover new tracks, routes and places to explore.

The new app
Strava will run independently on Google’s newest smartwatch operating system. This means that Android smartwatch wearers will be able to run the Strava app directly on the watch without having to carry a phone. By utilising Wear 2.0’s innovative built-in GPS, built-in heart rate monitors and wireless connectivity, the Strava app records activities and workouts seamlessly. All that data is then automatically synced to your Strava feed (which can be accessed via the desktop).
Of the launch, Head of Integration for Strava Mateo A. Ortega said:
We welcome the highly anticipated release of Android Wear 2.0. Wear 2.0’s standalone model is forward thinking and innovative, and pushes the limits of what we thought was possible. This platform introduces many features that benefit Strava athletes, such as the option to record and upload activities independent of their phone.
