If you’ve got an old GoPro hanging around in your drawers, now maybe a good time to dig it out.
GoPro has just launched its new ‘Trade-Up Program’, which allows customers to send in their old, or malfunctioning GoPro to get a discounted HERO5. Depending on which camera you purchase, you can get $50-$100 dollars off a brand new HERO5 Session, or HERO5 Black.
The program is the first of its kind in the company’s history and seeks to incentivise users to experience the new, cloud-connected GoPro and unlock software upgrades set for 2017.
Until 11 May, users can visit the Trade-Up website, select the new camera of their choice, and follow the instructions to return their previous-generation camera. Upon receiving the returned camera, GoPro will process the discount and ship customers their new, connected HERO5 camera. The company reminds customers to remove all media before shipping.
It doesn’t matter if it’s operational or obliterated. According to GoPro: “cameras can be dead, missing components, or even melted in a fire”, and it will accept them.
Unfortunately, the programme is currently only running in the US, but fingers crossed GoPro extends the programme across Europe in the coming months.
